Bohemian Wind Blows Again, Fashion Is a Cycle

In fashion, 2022 may be the most “unoriginal year” yet. In fact, this trend is in the midst of the “Y2K fashion” that became popular around 2000, the minimalism of the 1990s continues to be popular, and the boho style is getting more attention than ever before.

What is “Bohemian”

The so-called “boho” is a coined word that combines “bohemian” and “Soho” in New York, a style that combines ethnic fashion with urban elements.

Although it is difficult to pinpoint the exact origins of the more than 200-year-old bohemian style, one theory is that bohemian culture was born as a counterculture in the second half of the 18th century after the French Revolution. At that time, the patronage system of individual upper-class support for the arts ended, and many artists fell into poverty.

There is also a theory that the French word “bohemian” began to be used as a derogatory term for the Romans, who were once thought to have come to France from Bohemianism. Bohemia was the medieval kingdom of Bohemia and is now the largest historical region of the Czech Republic.

Regardless, “Bohemian” is a term with a certain meaning. In other words, it represents people with an unconventional, nomadic lifestyle, which is reflected in their aesthetics.

Known as Bohemians, people wear time-honored clothing from across Europe and garments made from soft, easy-going fabrics inspired by craft patterns and silhouettes.

Features of bohemian style

In the early 20th century, the “bohemian” style of freedom and relaxation became a word circulating among the wealthy. Because from 1900 to 1920, French fashion designer Paul Poiret created a drape that allowed women to remove their corsets and put on more comfortable dresses.

Poire created a collection of boho-inspired pieces, such as stride skirts, harem pants and lampshade tunics, which became popular. High society people have come to embrace “noble bohemians” looking to get involved in the movement, which has become synonymous with people with unique ideas.

In the ever-evolving history of fashion, a new type of bohemian style emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. It merged with the hippie movement that promoted self-expression and denied preconceived notions.

Woodstock in 1969 was an important turning point in redefining bohemian style. In addition to floral prints and breathable dresses, flared silhouettes, embroidery, ponchos, moccasins, balloon sleeves, tassels, and more were born in this era.

By the mid-2000s, Sienna Miller and Kate Moss were on the scene. Wearing clothes with a strong bohemian feel, they officially gave birth to “festive” fashion. Listening to arctic monkeys and razer light, wearing necklaces, wearing lara skirts (short skirts with pleats), studded belts, and suede over-the-knee boots became the trend.

What are the characteristics of “Boho” in 2022?

Years later, in 2022, Boho returns to the runway with momentum. Alberta Ferretti’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection featured layered tank dresses and gladiator sandals, while Chloe’s collection featured lace pouches, robes, shells and crochet.

And Gigi Hadid showed up at Alchuzara in a full-body tie-dye pattern. In addition, the best was resurrected at the Etro show, and the large pattern was conspicuous.

Given the impact of recent idiosyncratic causes, it is understandable that free-spirited fashions that eliminate constructive design are gaining popularity. Plus, with the growing demand for vintage and sustainable clothing, it’s no wonder that redesigned and throwback styles are trending.

What sets it apart from the 2022 version of Boho Style is that it has the details and design of yesteryear, while maintaining the original style while adding some whimsical elements. The key was to keep the key elements simple and bold, while freely combining various colours, patterns, materials and silhouettes.

For a more sophisticated look, try pairing a white shirt with straight denim. Plus, replacing fringed bags with belt bags and designer crossbody bags should add a sleeker style.

Being a fashion designer is all about using the style of clothing to reflect their emotions.
